EVENTS & UPDATES

Hey there!
Before 2011 sets in, let us take a look at the green and blue events YEA is going to bring to you in the upcoming year!
1. Sec 1 Recycling Competition 2011
Watch out for the inter-class recycling competition coming soon! The earth's resources are getting exhausted and our landfills are overflowing, so here's your chance to do something about it. Attractive prizes to be won for the class which collects the most amount of recyclable material!
2. MacRitchie Learning Trail
The MacRitchie Learning Trail is a field study activity aimed at giving students a first-hand experience of water-related topics in the school curriculum, and through this activity, it is also hoped that students can have a greater understanding of the unique features of MacRitchie Reservoir and thus, have a stronger sense of rootedness to this location.
Targeted at the lower secondary students, this trail would offer outdoor and experiential learning for the students, and seek to supplement the syllabus. With tasks such as measuring the quality of water (pH, turbidity), students would be able to apply the concepts which they have learnt in the classroom!
3. Beach Cleaning
Look at how our clean Singapore beaches are, but have you ever wondered how much rubbish was seen and collected on some of these beaches? And do you know accumulation of such rubbish on the beaches can cause severe land pollution? And have you ever thought of the possible harms a simple plastic bottle or can bottle can bring to the surrounding and the seas next to the beaches?
Do look forward to them!

I believe that since we are born into this world, we should do our best to take care of it, both for ourselves, and for the future generations.
A quote from Gandhi -
“There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed”.
If everybody takes only what he needs, and does not waste resources, it is possible for man and nature to coexist peacefully
(Hasn’t that been the case for the past few hundred thousand years?)

My interests include reading, watching documentaries and stand-up comedy.
I’m also a staunch supporter of open-source software.
I became an enviro-buff because I figured that people need to think how and why they should help the environment and live green.
Instead of trying to figure out if global warming really exists, I see the breakthrough point for laymen as realising humanity's moral duty to live sustainably.
I trust that if people put aside the high-level facts and accept that they have a responsibility as Earth's stewards, the world will be a greener place.

I think that the environment is a very important issue, and I believe everybody has to have a certain degree of environmental awareness, and have the interest in protecting the environment.
Ultimately, I believe everyone has a part to play in conserving the environment, or simply spreading the environmental message.
